A Scene at railway Station
A train is the most convenient and affordable mode of travel for
the majority of t he people in the country .
When we have to go hundreds of kilometers away from home on work
or to meet our near and dear ones,a travel by train gives us a fairly cheap and
comfortable movement to and fro.
The trains moving for hundreds of kilometers stops at several
places small and big .These places are called railway stations where train come
and go. A few rooms, a verandah on both sides, a gate entry and platforms on
the edges of railway track, a bridge helping to cross the lines and toilets on
the last corner. The important compartments are railway booking office, cloak
room station master’s office, signal room, ticket collector’s room and waiting
room for the passengers.
The scene and aura of
railway station starts from the very front of the station. There is crowd in
front of the station. There are taxi stands, scooter stand and even rickshaw
stand for the passengers There is crowd and loud shouts of drivers of all kinds
calling passengers to their conveyance. This is obviously because the station
is boarding and halting place for both incoming and outgoing passengers. So,
the noise starts from outside of the station.
As we moved into the station premises, the scene became more
interesting to watch. We could see trains coming and going out from different
platforms, Hoards of people were coming to the station to receive or to see off
their friends and relatives.
There was a rush of a continuous crowd on every platform of the
railway station. There was a loud noise of announcements. These announcements
were about the trains, their coming and going was announced for the benefit of
the travellers.
To add to the noise of people’s movements and announcements, there
was perpetual call of the vendors of different kinds of wares. These were the
vendors of foodstuff, tag water bottles and many more. Some push carriages were
moving hurriedly on the platform. Many vendors were selling different eatable
e.g slice bread, Pakoras, Biscuits, Packed food & other things.
Then the scene turned over as the assistant station master
received signal for train arrival. A helper in dark blue shirt rang the bell.
This changed the scene. The eatable carrier vendors stared moving towards their
point to sell products. In the same way, station porters in red shirts stood on
the door points of the coaches, the train steamed in and incoming passengers
blocked the passage. Who were to alight train, found it difficult to alight.
Goods were handed over through windows. There was cracking noise
of vendors and the compartment children, who were struggling for going out.
some travelers were having a stroll on the platform. Some found it difficult
and sat back on their seats and tried to get eatables on the seat itself . The
train stayed just for a few minutes.
Then suddenly, the train whistled. The guard began to wave the
green banner. The passengers rushed to their compartments. The train began to
creep slowly. The people began to wave their hands to their friends. As soon as
the train left the station, the people to began leave the station and in no
time the station was deserted.
So, at the railway station we see such a variety of sights that an
hour or so spent at the station shows one the life that is. At the station we
can see a lot of humankind and humanness. The place is full life and gusto. The
railway station is buzzing with life all the time of day and night and that
also every day. I feel that, whenever one feels bored or lonely, a visit to the
railway station will surely pep up one’s spirits, and he will become lively and
happy once again.
