City Life
“God
made the country and men made the town “
A city is a very large town , an extensively built area where
number of people live and work. The physiognomy of city is entirely different
from that of a village. Here we find high sky scrapers, vast roads, gigantic
parks, big bazaars and government offices.
Hustle and bustle of the city is the real charm of city life. In cities
people remain busy from dawn to dusk. Even till late at night, certain places
like parks, theaters , cinema houses and
bazaars remain teeming with people.
The real appeal of city life is the availability of all sorts of
amenities and conveniences. School, colleges and universities offer ample
opportunities for learning. Hospitals and clinics are there to treat numerous
diseases . Cinema houses, theatres and parks provide every kind of recreation
and fun. All kind of transport is available there every time at your beck and
call. The vast streets, motor ways, large vehicles , buses, trains and
airplanes make the travel easy , fast and comfortable. All kinds of eatables
are available all the time. There are provision stores, hotels, restaurants and
utility stores to fulfill the needs of people. Sanitary conditions in cities
are much better as compared to villages. Streets and roads are well paved and
clean. Almost all the people in cities have the facility of electricity and
natural gas.
The cities are bounteous in offering abundant opportunities of
progress. People can discover prospects for the uplift of their business.
Though the advantages of city life are miscellaneous and diverse,
there are certain demerits also. It is quick, hazardous and precarious. The
evil like terrorism, sectarianism , kidnapping and looting are in vogue in
cities. The newspapers expose plenty of urban crimes . As Robert Cowan says,
“ A city’s environment is shaped not only by people who have an
important influence but by everyone who
lives and works there”
In cities, People are egocentric and self seeking. They do not
bother what is happening around. Their sphere of activities is limited to their
interests. Egotism has wiped away the qualities of hospitality, generosity,
straight forwardness and decency from the city life. People are busy with
either earning or spending. They have become materialistic and money oriented.
They do not bother to help needy, to look after the ailing and to clothe the
naked.
The people residing in cities are deprived of pure and
unadulterated food. They cannot get pure milk, butter, fresh vegetables and
fruit. They are compelled to inhale polluted and smoky air. People in big
cities also have to suffer from water shortage.
Some suitable steps can make city life worth –living. The availability of fresh food and water should be ensured by the Government. Smoke emitting vehicles should be banned immediately. The moral and social sense should be invigorated in people. In this way city life can be made worth living.
